Stihl MS 260 Chainsaw Review

The STIHL MS 260 is another great product from the STIHL chainsaw line. The robust chainsaw for forestry work is like a homeowner’s version of the STIHL MS 460. For non-professional chainsaw operators who are looking to invest in an outdoor power tool that is both reliable and layman-friendly, the MS 260 will prove to be a good buy.

Featuring all the standard components of an STIHL chainsaw like the anti-vibration system, single-lever master control, tool free filler caps and Ematic chain lubrication system just to name a few, the STIHL MS 260 is easy to operate. It can also double as a hedge trimmer when attached to a separate appendage (the HS 246).

Like the MS 460, the MS 260 model has a catalytic converter too. However, compared to the professional version, the STIHL MS 260 is lighter (at 4.8 kg) and has a lower power output (2.6 kW). Not surprisingly, the MS 260 retails at a lower price.

There are two other variations of the STIHL MS 260 – the MS 260 C-B and the MS 260-W. The special Chain Quick Tensioning function that comes with the MS 260 C-B makes it more convenient than the basic model as it enables the user to adjust the chain with a thumb wheel, without the need for tools. On the other hand, the MS 260-W has a heated handle which would be a luxury in cold weather.
